When I was eight, I attended my first Young Authors Conference in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Many years later, after teaching English at the college level, I obtained my doctorate in American Culture Studies, pouring my heart into writing my dissertation…
…and then the job market for teaching in the humanities tanked. Having a job meant I could eat and pay bills, so I went to work in prepress and printing businesses at about the same time it was being transformed by digital innovations like database publishing, online retail catalogs, and digital workflows. Along the way, I taught part-time while universities were wrangling online learning platforms and new digital tools. I also earned a postgraduate certificate in Emerging Technologies in Learning from the University of Manitoba.
My background includes copywriting, technical writing, information mapping, instructional design and adult learning methods, and technology. A long stop in educational publishing meant that I also experienced e-learning, online textbooks, and online marketing. I edited two books about teaching writing, and I have presented papers on graphic design in the context of adult learning and information retention. My work is grounded in how adults learn.
Now I am an information and instructional designer to help you achieve the next level of your online presence. I have developed a proven method to help you organize your online course for minimum time and maximum impact for your learners.
You don’t have to learn about instructional design or the technology to take your knowledge online. We developed You Come Alive to make it easy for you to show what you know!
